Into the Wild – Embrace the Cold in Chicago

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

– Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

Photo of the Day – Like a Cold Wind Blows

It’s cold in Chicago. Yes, it is but why does everyone act like it’s a big surprise? It’s the middle of January and it is supposed to be cold – what should have surprised everyone was how it wasn’t cold for the previous month. Sure single digits aren’t fun but that is what happens in winter. I went out last winter (January 14th) to take these shots and I’d be shocked if before today I’d be able to get any ice out on the breaker. Embrace the cold and don’t be afraid to get out and shoot – quite frankly I’m a little disappointed we haven’t had more cold weather/snow thus far.

If you want to join a group of us out shooting this Saturday there is a local Chicago Photowalk – come on out and embrace adventure. Details are through the link
