To build a city where it is impossible to build a city is madness in itself, but to build there one of the most elegant and grandest of cities is the madness of genius.

Photo of the Day – Doorways of Venice
This was our first stop in Italy. I’ve been sick so haven’t been able to really go through the pictures we took while there. I did some minor color corrections but otherwise left this as it came out of the camera. The canals in Venice go right up to the ‘front’ doors of the houses – most who are on the canal just resign themselves to wearing waiters in their house a few months a year as the water levels rise to the point of flooding the first floor for a good part of the year. We, for fun, checked on some real estate prices while wandering the streets and I can’t imagine why someone would pay multi-million dollar/Euro prices for a house/apartment that you know is going to be under water during the high tide seasons.
