St. Peter’s Basilica – Vatican City

I’m off to take some sunset pictures at El Matador beach but wanted to get this picture up because the last time I stayed at this hotel I had issues with wifi at night. This picture is best if viewed large – click on the picture and then you can expand it to X3 size on the site – the details in the columns and altar are magnificent.

The most renowned work of the Renaissance is actually a church and this is it – St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy. This is regarded as one of the holiest places in the world and being connected with the home of the Catholic Pope makes that designation pretty easy. The basilica is the burial site of one of the twelve apostles – Peter – who is rumored to be buried beneath the main altar.

Every time we come to Vatican City there is an event going on here – hence the chairs. We never did find out what the event was though. We walked around and took in the beauty and then headed to the Vatican museum.
