My first night in Glacier National Park I headed to Saint Mary Lake to photograph Goose Island. This location was made famous in 1998 when David Muench published a photo that was featured in a number of magazines. Saint Mary Lake is the second largest lake in Glacier and is pretty large (about 10 miles) so while the island looks small in this picture it is actually a decent size.

The rain rolled in mid-day the following afternoon and unfortunately this was the most color that I saw in the sky at sunset on the entire trip. Even on this night it seemed like a longshot and couple other photographers that were in this area actually packed up and left at the sunset time of 7:21 PM when nothing happened. However, around five minutes after the designated time the undersides of the clouds above the mountains lit up and we actually saw some decent color.
