Sunset on Long’s Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park

The Bear Lake hike in Rocky Mountain Park in the height of summer is packed. Being so close to the trailhead and having nice, wheelchair accessible paths all around the lake make it a perfect hike for those that are either unable or not physically fit enough to hike elsewhere in the park. Typically, because of the crowds I avoid this lake but in the winter months it can be extremely peaceful as the crowds (like the bears) are hibernating for the season.

Thus, in the winter I will head to Bear Lake and take in the occasional sunset without anyone bothering me. There is a pile of rocks about a 1/4 of a mile from the trailhead that I like to climb up on set up a little personal picnic and watch the colors come in before heading back to the hotel for the night.
